Luckily, scholarship or financial aid is willingly provided to those who choose to major in one of the many areas including Humanities Arts and Social Sciences, Science, Agriculture and Engineering, Applied Sciences, Biotechnology, Genetics, Soil Science, MBA, Banking and Finance, Literature, American Studies, Communication, Computer Science and Data Processing, Education, Industrial Arts, Trade and Technology, Law, Mathematical Sciences and Medical Sciences. Various scholarships are available for undergraduate, graduate, master, PhD and postdoctoral programs for Nigerian students. Leventis Fellowship for Nigerian Applicants at SOAS, University of London in UK, 2014
Leventis Foundation is funding fellowship for younger scholars to develop their research interests in the field of libraries and archives and to participate in the intellectual life of the Center. Nigerian academics are eligible for this research fellowship. Duration of fellowship is of three months. The scheme might be particularly appropriate for scholars working up a PhD thesis into publishable form. The deadline for applications is 31st May 2014.
Mo Ibrahim Foundation MSc Scholarship at University of Birmingham in UK, 2014
The International Development Department is offering MSc scholarship in the field of Governance and State-building, followed by a six-month internship at IDD and six months with the Mo Ibrahim Foundation in London. Applicants must have the equivalent of a first class UK bachelors degree and be African nationals domiciled (or permanent residents) in an African country. Application deadline is 19th May 2014.
Early Career Development Fellowship for Developing Countries Applicants in USA, 2015
The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) and OCLC are offering Jay Jordan IFLA/OCLC Early Career Development Fellowship for Developing Countries Applicants. This fellowship is available for early career development and continuing education for library and information science professionals. Applicants must have a qualifying degree in library or information science. Normally a PhD is not considered a qualifying degree, because the Fellowship program is targeted for early career librarians. The application deadline is February 14, 2014.
IDRC Doctoral Research Awards for Canadians and Developing Countries in Canada, 2014
IDRC offers research awards for Canadians and developing countries’ students for pursuing doctoral studies at a Canadian university. These awards are intended for field research in one or more developing countries. Students must have completed coursework and passed comprehensive exams before taking up the award. Approximately 20 to 25 awards are offered per competition and will cover justifiable field research expenses up to CA$20,000 a year. The application deadline is April 2, 2014,
Development Scholarships for Nigerian Students and Developing Countries in Czech Republic, 2014/15
The Faculty of Social Sciences at Charles University through the support of the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport offers five partial scholarships for developing countries. Applications for these scholarships are open to all students from developing countries and/or countries going through a process of political and economic transition. Students who are applying for study in one of Bachelor’s studies or Master’s studies programmes at Faculty of Social Sciences from academic year 2014/15 can apply. The deadline for scholarship applications is 30th April 2014.
The Distance Learner Online MPH Scholarship for International & Developing Country Students, 2014
Online MPHDegree.net is offering two online MPH scholarships for developing countries and international students in the USA. The purpose of the merit-based Distance Learner Online MPH Scholarship is to help public health students pay for the costs of their education. It may be awarded to anyone who is currently enrolled or will enroll in the next six months in a graduate level, online master of public health program. Total offer is of $1000. 00. These are merit-based scholarships to deserving online MPH candidates for each calendar year. The application deadline is January 15th, 2014.
Dorothy Marchus Senesh Fellowships for Women from Developing Countries in USA, 2014/15
International Peace Research Association Foundation offers graduate fellowships for women in USA. Fellowships are provided in the field of in Peace and Development Studies. The Dorothy Senesh Fellowship is available to women from developing countries who have completed a Bachelor’s degree, who have been accepted into a graduate program and whose graduate work is to be focused on issues related to the goals of IPRA. Every other year (beginning in 1990) one woman receives school expenses in the amount of $5,000 per year for two years. The application deadline is January 15, 2014.
IDB-Oxford Clarendon Scholarships at University of Oxford, UK
Islamic Development Bank and the University of Oxford funded The combined IDB-Oxford Clarendon Scholarships for Nigerian Students in the field of MPLS, Medical Sciences and Social Sciences at University of Oxford, UK.
The application deadline is 10 January 2014 for Medical Sciences, Philosophy, Politics & International Relations and Computer Science; 24 January 2014 for all other subjects.
Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies Scholarships for Graduate Students, UK 2013
The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is a Recognized Independent Centre of the University of Oxford. It was established in 1985 to encourage the scholarly study of Islam and the Islamic world. The Centre provides a meeting point for the Western and Islamic worlds of learning.
Application deadline is 10 0r 24 January 2014.
Visiting Research Fellowships for African Students in UK, 2014/15
The Centre of African Studies invites applications for two visiting research fellowships from candidates in all the disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. Fellowships are open for African students. The appointments will take place from 1st October 2014 – 31st March 2015 and are non-renewable. Each award is worth up to £14,000; out of which travel, accommodation, maintenance costs and medical insurance will be paid by the centre on behalf of the fellow. Application should be submitted till 3rd January 2014.
Georg Forster Research Fellowship for Researchers from Developing Countries in Germany, 2014/15
The Humboldt Foundation grants up to 80 Georg Forster Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers annually and financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Co-financed by the European Union (EU) in the 7th Framework Programme. Scientists and scholars of all disciplines from developing countries, emerging economies and transition states (excluding People’s Republic of China and India) can apply to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation directly at any time. Applications can be submitted at any time from 01.07.2013 to mid-2015.

Humboldt Foundation funded Postdoctoral Research fellowship for the students from Nigeria and other Developing Country in the field of Natural Sciences , Engineering, Humanities, Social Sciences to Study in GermanyScholarship Application Deadline: Applications may be submitted any time from 1.7.2013 until mid-2015.
Developing Country Eye Researcher Travel Fellowships, 2014
ARVO Foundation for Eye Research in partnership with the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology is offering research travel fellowships to pursue a career in teaching and research in any area of eye and vision research, whether basic or clinical research in applicants’ home countries. Applicants from developing countries are eligible for this fellowship. Fellowship covers transportation, lodging and per diem, in addition to registration for the ARVO Annual Meeting and complimentary ARVO membership for one year. The deadline for applications is Dec. 1, 2013.
Commonwealth Academic Fellowships for Mid-Career Academics in UK, 2014
Each year, UK Department for International Development (DFID) funds academic fellowships for mid-career academics from developing Commonwealth countries. These fellowships enable fellows to spend three months to network and update knowledge and skills related to their academic subject and responsibilities at any approved UK university or higher education institution. The CSC also invites alumni who held Commonwealth Scholarships for PhD to apply directly to the CSC for a Commonwealth Academic Fellowship. All eligible alumni will be sent a letter with details of how to apply. All applications must be made through your nominating university/university body in applicants’ home country. The deadline for applications is 3 December 2013.
Conservation Leadership Scholarships for Developing Countries at University of Cambridge, UK 2014
Miriam Rothschild Scholarships for Nigerian Students in Conservation Leadership to support students from Nigeria and less developed and developing countries that are rich in biodiversity, to attend the MPhil in Conservation Leadership at University of Cambridge, UK. Scholarship application deadline is 3 December 2013.
2014/15 IARC Postdoctoral Fellowships for Training in Cancer Research, France
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), World Health Organization is offering postdoctoral fellowships for junior scientists who intend to pursue a career in cancer research and wish to complete their training at the IARC in Lyon, France working in a research Group. Applicants are eligible from any country. However, applicants from low- and medium-resource countries are encouraged to apply. The fellowship is awarded for a period of two years. Candidates are required to have finished their doctoral degree (Ph.D.) within five years of the closing date for application, or be in the final phase of completing their doctoral degree. Deadline for application is 30 November 2013.
Cadbury Fellowships for African Applicants at University of Birmingham in UK, 2014
Department of African Studies and Anthropology at the University of Birmingham offers fellowships for African applicants in UK. Fellowships are provided in the field of arts, humanities and social sciences. Applicants’ research should be relevant to the theme of Class and Africa and they should be ready to discuss their findings and interpretations in a series of reading groups, seminar presentations, journal workshops and other activities over a ten-week period, before presenting their papers at the international conference. 22nd November 2013
2014 HEC-EGIDE/ Eiffel MBA Scholarships for Developing Countries, France
French Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces HEC-EGIDE/ Eiffel MBA scholarships. The scholarship is awarded to the developing countries’ students to pursue Masters in Business Administration. The Eiffel Scholarship provides participants with a monthly allowance of €1,181 and covers additional expenses including travel, health insurance and cultural activities The deadline to apply is November 15, 2013 for January 2014.
CBA-Chevening Scholarship for Commonwealth Developing Countries in UK, 2014/15
The CBA and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office are offering bursaries for postgraduate media courses at City University London, the University of East Anglia and the University of Westminster. Eligible candidates will be full-time staff of CBA’s member organisations (full members and affiliates) and from developing countries in the Commonwealth. Online application must be submitted by 1 November 2013.
Campbell Fellowship for Women Scholar-Practitioners from Developing Nations
Vera R. Campbell Foundation funded One six-month Fellowship for female postdoctoral social scientist from a developing nation whose work addresses women’s economic and social empowerment in that nation. Scholarship application deadline: 1 November (annually)
Westminster International Scholarships for Nigerian Students and Developing Countries’ Students in UK, 2014
University of Westminster offers international scholarships for developing countries. The scholarships are available for pursuing master’s degree level. The scholarships will provide full tuition fee waiver, accommodation, living expenses and flights to and from London. The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence, financial need and development potential. The application deadline is November 1, 2013.
Radcliffe Institute Fellowship Program for International Applicants at Harvard University in USA, 2014/15
Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at the Harvard University is funding international fellowship program for scholars, scientists, artists and writers who wish to pursue advanced work in academic and professional fields and in the creative arts. The fellowship includes stipends, relocation expenses for the duration of one year. Women and men from across the United States and throughout the world, including developing countries are encouraged to apply. The deadline for natural science and mathematics is November 1, 2013
JNCASR-CICS Fellowship Programme for Scientists from Developing Countries in India, 2014
Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) offers fellowship programme for scientists from developing countries in India. It covers short-term, participatory research studies in all major disciplines of science and technology including engineering and medical sciences at the Indian Centres of Excellence. The application deadline is 31st October every year.
INSA JRD-Tata Fellowship Programme for Developing Countries in India, 2014
The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) offers fellowship programme for developing countries in India. It covers short-term, participatory research studies in all major disciplines of science and technology including engineering and medical sciences at premier research institutions in India. Applicants possessing Doctorate or Master’s Degree in Science or equivalent degree in Engineering/ Medicine and allied disciplines, candidates below 45 years of age may apply. The application deadline is 31st October every year.
SPDC Joint Venture University Scholarship Award Scheme in Nigeria, 2012/2013
The Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria Limited Scholarship Scheme offers for first year students in all Nigerian universities. This opportunity is to study with an annual grant from the SPDC JV for the full duration of the course. The programme aims to promote academic excellence and improve the skills-base among young Nigerians. Nigerian students must be have enrolled in the bachelors program for 2012/13 academic session. Netherlands Fellowship Programmes for Master’s Degree, PhD Research and Short Courses, 2013/14
Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs under the budget for development cooperation is offering Netherlands Fellowship Programmes (NFP) for developing country applicants. The fellowship is available for master’s, PhD and short courses. Students must be a national of, and working and living in one of the countries in the NFP country list valid at the time of application. If for whatever reason a candidate stays in another country other than his or her home country for more than 90 days before the start of the course and/ or programme, he or she is not considered to be living and working in his or her home country. Application should be submitted till 1St October 2013.

Eni Scholarship for Master Students at St Antony’s College, UK
St Antony’s College Oxford in partnership with the international integrated energy company Eni, is offering three students from Nigeria and other African universities the opportunity of fully funded scholarships for Nigerian Students including fees and living expenses, to undertake postgraduate study at the Master’s level at the University of Oxford commencing in October 2011.
