“Govt Please Consider the Students”- ASUU Begs FG

On behalf of the tee-ming Nigerian stu-dents, the Ahmadu Bello UniversityStudent Representative Council (ABUSRC) hereby passionately implores both the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to, in the spirit of patriotism and for the purpose rescuing our precious but promising education sector, strive for a compromise that will bring to an end the indefinite strike embarked upon by ASUU on July 1, 2013. There is no gainsaying the fact that the strike will definitely disrupt and cripple academic activities in Nigerian universities. These citadels of learning and upholders of the society’s ideal should not be allowed to face this unfortunate ordeal. It is often said that no nation can rise above the level of its education system, doing this would logically mean that the future of this nation is in jeopardy. And this impending future is not inevitable. This is not what this administration should allow to happen because education is one of the areas claimed to receive the most urgent attention in Mr President’s transformation Agenda. ASUU too should consider the future of Nigeria’s educational sector in which they have so much invested intellectual and material resources. The Nigerian students therefore entreat both parties to consider the nation and its education system first and foremost before any other consideration, to salvage the sector from the current impasse. We look forward to a speedy and amicable resolution of the matter so that we the students can come back to the various campuses for the smooth continuation of our educational pursuits. This is the only favour given by this society and its leadership which the federal government and ASUU areimportant part of.
