From GODWIN TSA, Abuja The Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) has released new guidelines for the conferment of the rank of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN). A copy of the new guidelines obtained by our reporter shows that applicants for the highest rank in the legal profession  will now cough out a whopping N300,000 as application fee as against N250,000 paid last year.

Iyetade Soyinka, a daughter of Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, has died. Ms. Soyinka, who was born June 6, 1965, died at the University of Ibadan Teaching Hospital where she was being treated for an undisclosed ailment. The death was disclosed in a statement signed by Jahman Anikulapo, an aide to Mr. Soyinka, one of the world’s foremost dramatists and winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize in literature. The statement noted that the late Iyetade Soyinka was a student at the Staff School and Queens School, Ibadan before she studied Medicine at the University of Ibadan. Mr. Anikulapo’s statement described the deceased as“affable, intelligent and sometimes capricious,”adding that she“struggled with her health in recent years.”Despite her health woes, the late Iyetade Soyinka“greeted every day with a smile and doted on her two children.” The statement, which was issued on behalf of the deceased’s family, revealed that Ms. Soyinka“took ill quite suddenly and passed away while being treated at UCH

So I just met this girl 2 months ago and so far, it’s been a good relationship apart from her always telling her family about our sex life. The Nelson Mandela family has finally admitted that Nelson Mandela is dead by announcing on December 5th (2013) that the former leader of South Africa is no longer with us.  Pastor Chibuike Isreal who was arrested for having sex with a 9 months pregnant woman has appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court on yesterday in Lagos. Chibuike who resides at Ijegun, is facing three-count charge of sexual assault, stealing and obtaining by false pretences. The prosecutor told the court that the accused, unlawfully had sex with a woman, when she was nine months pregnant for her husband. He told the court that the accused committed the offences in August at No. 4, Ojorubutu St, Kudeyibu, Ijegun. He added that the accused also unlawfully obtained some money from the woman under false pretences. The prosecutor said that the offences contravene Sections 250, 263 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Drama ensued recently in Alhaji Oluseyi Way in Okota, a densely populated area of Lagos when an unidentified man stabbed a commercial sex worker with a bottle for refusing to give him used condoms after sex. It was gathered that the man, after having an all-night marathon sex with the lady demanded for the used condoms the following day but the lady turned him down, saying that she had disposed them. However, the man maintained that the lady must produce the condoms so he could disposed them himself, apparently afraid of being used for ritual.

An academic staff of the Anambra State University, Engineer Luke Eme , has bagged an Award from the International Water Association (IWA), London. Engineer Eme, of the Department of Civil Engineering, received the honour from the President of the Association, Mr. Glen Daigger, for emerging first at a poster presentation competition held to mark the Association’s 2013 World Water Congress and Exhibition. During the competition, which took place between the 16th and 215t of September 2012 at Burssan, Korea, a total of three hundred and eighty seven poster presenters participated. Out of this number, Five were Shortlisted for the finals where Engineer Eme’s presentation was chosen by the Selection team as the best presentation. The other four winners were Man Heinonen, Mincheol Kim, Gabriel Raioviteanu and Zhuo Chen.
