The House of Representatives yesterday Thursday May 29th approved 14 years imprisonment for persons who contracted same sex marriage in the country. This was sequel to a clause-by-clause consideration of a Bill for an Act to prohibit marriage or union entered between persons of same sex, at the Committee of the Whole. “Marriage or civil union entered between persons of same gender shall not be solemnised in any place of worship, either church or mosque or any place in Nigeria,” it said. Introducing the bill, Rep. Albert Sam-Tsokwa ( PDP-Taraba) said that it sought to achieve a far reaching objective by outlawing same sex marriage and provide punishment for offenders. It also set out a 10-year sentence for “any person who directly or indirectly makes public show of same-sex amorous relationships’’. “Any persons or group of persons that administers, witnesses, screen and shields the solemnisation of same sex marriage in Nigeria on conviction, will be liable to 10 years imprisonment.’’

A reliable source told GIST-ME-ANSU that the long awaited Eagles FM, the training radio station for students of Mass Communication in Anambra State University will soon be on air. The head, department of Mass Communication, Professor Chude Okonkwor disclosed this in a chat with ANSU news. The Head of Department who said the radio and television demonstration studios were part of the facilities which the department presented to the National University commission (NUC) team during the 2012 accreditation exercise said the management was looking at different proposals from contractors who want the radio studio to on air. A bus preacher was almost lynched on Saturday morning at Toyota Bus stop, in front of the popular Ladipo Spare parts market, when some condoms allegedly fell out of his bible as he preached the ‘Word of God’. The infant was stuck in a pipe directly beneath a toilet commode, state television reported, in a case which has sparked anger on social media sites. There are frequent reports in Chinese media of babies being abandoned, often shortly after birth. The problem is attributed variously to young mothers unaware they were pregnant, the birth of an unwanted girl in a society which puts greater value on boys or China's strict family planning rules. In the latest case the infant was found in the sewage pipe in a residential building in Jinhua in the wealthy coastal province of Zhejiang on Saturday afternoon. Ghanaian authorities have temporarily banned the Ghana branch of TB Joshua's Synagogue Church of All Nation from hosting revivals, days after four people were killed and 13 more injured in a stampede during a church service on Sunday May 19th.   Thousands of people flocked to the church after church officials announced that holy water would be distributed. During the rush for the anointed water, three women and one man lost their lives after being trampled over. Ghanaian authorities said the stampede could have been avoided if the church had used a bigger venue. The church is no longer allowed to hold revivals at their Spintex Auditorium in Accra.

This news got to my office late, but anyhow shaa, the news still sharp for ear. Yesterday, at Shalom lodge, a fight came up between one miss Nnedimma a student resident of the lodge and a guy nicknamed 'Ikpo', a student caretaker of the lodge. Nnedimma was said to have refused to contribute for the pumping of water on the grounds that she had paid 300 Naira earlier; that which caretaker Ikpo said had long expired. Ikpo later decided to pump the water himself(With his own money) then sale if to whomsoever would need it. Nnedimma refused and insisted on fetching free from the tap; that Ikpo refused and a fight started. Nnedimma and Ikpo created a scene, that garnered a lot of viewers, from there the news got to us. Thank God!!!! lolz Nnedimma's face had already been rearranged by Ikpo before our ever active Anti-Cult came to her rescue. The Anti-cult is handling the matter. Wife of a serving House of Representatives member was fingered yesterday in the torture, beating and alleged attempt to kidnap two ladies in Isale Eko area of Lagos.   Four people died Sunday following a stampede during a Church service to distribute “Special Anointing Oil” at the Synagogue Church of All Nations owned by Nigeria’s Prophet TB Joshua, spokesman of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, DSP Freeman Tetteh has confirmed, Sunday nation reports. Yesterday evening a law student in 300level named Daalu was involved in a fatal bike accident. It was a head to head clash between a motocycle and a mini Volvo. The law student named Daalu was badly injured but sounded well when I spoke to him via mobile; which was a clear evidence of his quick recovery. Please get well. Students should minimize the rate of which they enter bike please.

An ancient tree (believed by some to be a tree of the gods) fell on Thursday May 16th, killing over 50 people at Umudagu Mbieri, Mbaitoli in Imo State. The Osisi Ukwu Uko, which has been in existence for over 200 years, fell during heavy rainstorm around 8pm Thursday night, collapsing on buildings, people selling their wares and customers buying good in a market under the tree. Those who didn't die lost body parts and are being treated at the hospital. People in the community had for many years called for the removal of the tree over safety concerns but the community elders refused to chop the tree down arguing that it was an  ancestral landmark.
