A Must Read for Every Student!

*****DISCLAIMER/PROVISO****
The words, allusions and the contents of this script solely represents the opinion    of the writer with regards to the protracted  ‘ASUU  V FG  IMPASSE’ and as such   should not be binding on any of the consumers of this piece nor impliedly instigate a feeling of aversion/hatred towards any of the particular party involved in this exposition.

The 2 FIGHTING ELEPHANTS + THE GRASS
While I was growing Up I learnt that an adage states thus ‘that when two Elephants Fight; That the Grasses suffer’. In this vein, many of the future Leaders of this nation have been “languishing “ at home for almost half a year or an estimated university academic semester which made me to ask the question “why is ASUU hell-bent not to rescind their industrial action despite the steps embarked upon by the federal Government to arrest the situation”????????

Nigeria as a country as we know is facing numerous and multifarious challenges in many facets of its structure and sectors not mostly because President Goodluck Jonathan caused these problems but mainly due to accumulated years of neglect by previous Government that were in power. Consequently, Nigeria as well cannot be resuscitated by magic or necromancy but by a steady, stable and efficient implementation of robust Government policies.

I am not preaching the Gospel that if ASUU had an agreement with the FG which due to government’s sloppiness was not perfectly honored that ASUU should not fight for their rights, NO am not preaching such gospel but what am saying and not so sorry to say is that pursuant to the fact that Nigeria is a country where there is no value for the rule of law and where many reprehensible acts go unpunished, That ASUU should adjust on their demands and hence reach a compromise with the Federal Government. For Crying out loud ‘Rome was not built in a day’ and even if $1trillion is pumped into the university system of our country today, it will still take months and/or years for our universities to reach a ‘5-star level’.

The FG has reportedly offered around N1.2 trillion to be paid over some years to ASUU whereas the  comprehensive budget of  Nigeria for 2013 is about N4.987 trillion. Now, lemme remind us all that ASUU vis-à-vis the University system is only a sub-sector in the education sector of this country and that this same FG funds the Government-owned primary schools, secondary schools and the Tertiary institutions (which includes the polytechnics). What of tomorrow if the polytechnics embark on their own demands like ASUU???  What do you think will be the fate of this country that currently ear-marks more than 65% of its annual budget for recurrent expenditure and a meager 30% for Capital Expenditure.

Let me gently remind us all that the purpose of this piece of journalism is not to take sides with any of the aforementioned party in this imbroglio because I know that our Government is corrupt and should pursuant to the level of illiteracy in this country allocate more funds to the education Sector as streamlined by UNESCO but the purpose of this script is to lay bare facts that should have appealed to any of the sincere parties in this entanglement to literally sheath their swords and consider the students (the suffering grass in this elephant fight) and understand that  verily ‘HE who fights and run away, lives to fight another day).**let us think of what would have happened if  GEN.Olusegun Obasanjo was still in power(because that Man as I know him is a man that does not have the time to check time)

Finally, For the president of this nation  to engage ASUU  in a meeting for an unbelievable 13 HOURS all in a bid to end this impasse shows to me a level of commitment from not only the Federal Government but  President Goodluck Jonathan and if  ASUU  cannot reach a compromise or an agreement with the President of this country(who is the Visible Numero-uno  of this country) then ASUU should take their problems or grievances to God in heaven because clearly it surpasses human intervention and needs spiritual/heavenly intervention.

**Professor Iyayi is dead; I commiserate with his family and pray for the repose of his soul. But just like many of my fellow ever-conscious students are praying for an amicable  end to this ASUU V FG stalemate, I just have the feeling that a couple of aggrieved students have as well taken to their shrine and to their gods to seek a ‘plan B’ to end this strike.

*** Shout-out to all  those that physically occupied their room for only 6 months before their house-rent expired, those that have had their rooms burgled and not forgetting those that would have been wearing ‘kaki colour’ and receiving monthly ‘allowee’ as NYSC members……………THE LORD IS YOUR STRENGTH  .

GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!!!!!!!
GOD BLESS US ALL!!!!!!!!!!
